Fait Avec Amour

 1,335 sqft ︱3-bedder Apartment

Originally from bustling Seoul, homeowner, J, ventured to the vibrant cityscape of Singapore in pursuit of her career aspirations. It was here that fate intervened, guiding her towards D, her partner in both life and adventure. Their meeting, amidst the hustle and bustle of their professional lives, marked the beginning of a journey filled with shared dreams and endless possibilities.

As the years passed, J and D's love blossomed, intertwining with their passion for exploration and discovery. Together, they've embarked on countless adventures, traversing the landscapes of Europe and immersing themselves in its rich tapestry of culture and design. From the sun-kissed shores of the French Riviera to the quaint streets of Copenhagen, each destination left an indelible mark on their hearts. They marvelled at the modern French elegance of a winery in Côte d'Azur and were captivated by the minimalist allure of Scandinavian design. These experiences ignited a flame within them—a desire to infuse their own sanctuary with the essence of European charm and contemporary sophistication.

After an exhaustive search spanning more than 30 condominiums, J and D found their dream apartment in the heart of their favourite wine and dine area. The compact enclosed kitchen along with space for a lengthy island setup within the dining area, perfectly suited the couple's lifestyle, who often prefer dining out. The spacious living room, bathed in natural light from full-height glass panels, provided the ideal canvas for their envisioned aesthetic.

Studio Lead Cher transformed the apartment into a sanctuary of contemporary French elegance. The beige polished marble flooring and predominantly white backdrop created a clean, sophisticated base. Steering away from traditional wood elements, the design focused on modern materials and finishes that resonated with the homeowners' preferences. Given J and D's penchant for socializing and exploring dining spots, the living room design eschewed the conventional television focal point. Instead, a custom-built fireplace became the heart of the space. Crafted from classic Nero Marquina marble with a distinctive leather finish, the fireplace's minimalistic design juxtaposes with the light-coloured flooring, exuding understated luxury.

To echo the European sophistication the couple cherished, wainscoting was incorporated on selected walls, imparting a formal, historic vibe without overwhelming the contemporary aesthetic. Vintage decorative items—glass vases, brass candle holders, and iron-forged candle stands—sourced from around the world, added layers of character and history. J's love for fresh blooms is evident throughout the home, with an array of vases specially curated to complement her fortnightly trips to the local market.

A significant request from J was a piece that connected her to her Korean heritage. The solution was a quintessential South Korean moon jar (dal-hang-ari) in a white porcelain finish, prominently displayed on the mantel. This touch of cultural heritage seamlessly blended with the overall European-inspired design.

Adding visual interest, an "outdoor" corner was created within the living room, taking advantage of natural light. This whimsical nook featured the playful Pipistrello table lamp, a marble bistro table with vintage legs, and a wrought iron heart-shaped garden chair, merging indoor comfort with an alfresco vibe.

Emphasizing the importance of a large, custom carpet as a foundational investment for the home, a piece spanning over 85 square feet was chosen. Crafted from a cloud-like blend of wool and tencel, the carpet elevated the tactile appeal and luxurious feel of the apartment. Its light colour mirrored the flooring, adding depth and cohesion to the living room.

The dining area showcases one of the home's most significant investments—the iconic Saarinen Dining Table from Knoll, with its arabescato marble tabletop. Accents of dark maroon and variations of pink introduce a romantic undertone, while a framed Hermès scarf above the dining table highlights J's appreciation for the brand.

This design journey seamlessly intertwines contemporary French elegance with personal travel memories. J and D's home embodies sophistication and sentiment—a space where cherished moments are celebrated and shared. Every detail, from furnishings to décor, mirrors their refined taste and shared experiences. Their home serves as a sanctuary for quiet reflection and joyful gatherings—a timeless testament to their journey from Seoul to Singapore. As they continue to weave new memories, their home will remain a cherished haven—a symbol of their enduring love and appreciation for life's finer pleasures.
